Certification & Import Documents — Buyer Questions
Which documents ship with the machine, what CE actually covers, and who decides the HS code.
Which compliance documents come with the machine, and can we get them before shipment?
CE and FDA certificates travel with the machine as part of the compliance pack, together with the commercial invoice and packing list your broker needs. You do not have to wait for the crate to see them — ask at the quotation stage and we send the PDFs, which is the normal sequence when your customer or your own compliance team has to sign off before a purchase order exists.
If your market requires a document that is not in the standard pack, raise it before production rather than after. Some documents can only be issued at a specific point in the shipping process and cannot be produced retrospectively.
What does CE marking actually cover, and is it enough for our market?
CE marking is a declaration that the machine conforms to the applicable EU directives — Machinery, Low Voltage and EMC — and it is what allows the machine to be placed on the market in the EU and EEA. It is a product-level conformity statement.
What it is not is a substitute for local installation rules. Electrical connection, extraction, workplace safety and operator training are governed by national and site-level regulations wherever the machine is installed, and those apply on top of CE. If you sell outside the EU, check what your market recognises before you quote — some accept CE, some require their own scheme, and finding out at customs is the expensive way to learn it.
Can you supply a Certificate of Origin or other import documents?
Yes, and the time to ask is before shipment. A Certificate of Origin is issued in connection with a specific consignment, so it cannot be produced neatly after the goods have sailed. If your import relies on a preferential duty rate under a trade agreement, tell us at the order stage which document your broker needs and in what form.
Other documents — inspection certificates, packaging or fumigation declarations — depend on your country’s requirements. Send us the list your broker gives you rather than a general request: document names vary between markets for what is essentially the same thing.
Our customs broker is asking for an HS code — can you confirm one?
We can tell you the code we normally declare under, as a reference. What we cannot do is decide the classification for your import: the final tariff classification is determined by the importer and the local customs broker under your own country’s rules, and the same machine can legitimately fall under different codes in different markets depending on configuration and local practice.
Treat a supplier-supplied code as a starting point for your broker to verify, not as an answer. If your broker proposes a different classification, tell us — we will describe the machine’s function and construction in whatever detail the authority needs to support their determination.
