The coating starts driving the result instead of the cotton. PU-coated, acrylic-coated and waxed canvas all put a layer at the cut line that behaves differently from the base cloth — it can soften, discolour or leave residue at settings that are perfectly fine on the same canvas uncoated, and the fume load rises with it.

So treat coated canvas as a different material from its uncoated version, even when the base cloth and weight are identical, and get the coating identified before quoting rather than after.
